If you’re looking for another funny anime that’s set in a high school, you’ve probably seen a lot of articles recommending Monthly Girls’ Nozaki Kun. We already saw it, and can vouch that it’s an excellent anime. It’s short (only 12 episodes), unfortunately, but well worth it.
But now comes the million-dollar question – can you watch this show on Netflix? You’re probably not interested in having to sign up on another site to do that, after all (which is completely understandable).
Well, we’re happy to say that yes, you can watch Monthly Girls’ Nozaki Kun on Netflix. That’s where we saw it too.
But don’t start looking up the anime on Netflix just yet! Before you do that, you should know that you can’t watch this show anywhere in the world. The anime is available on Netflix, yes, but not worldwide.
How to Find Out Where You Can Watch Monthly Girls’ Nozaki Kun on Netflix
You could ask people on Reddit, sure, but that’s not very convenient. Plus, who knows if anyone will bother responding at all.
A much better solution is to use StreamCatcher. It’s an online library checker that lets you see where every Netflix show is available. Just follow that link, type Monthly Girls’ Nozaki Kun in the search bar, hit Find, and you’ll soon have your answer.
According to the results, you can watch the anime if you’re in one of these countries:
-
South Korea
-
The US
-
Brazil
-
Canada
-
The UK
-
Japan
-
Australia
-
Argentina
The anime might be available in other location too. But, right now, StreamCatcher only displays those specific regions from those two VPNs (NordVPN and PrivateVPN) because the people behind it (ProPrivacy) tested and confirmed that they work. As in, they ran numerous tests using servers in those countries from those VPN providers to make sure Monthly Girls’ Nozaki Kun can be unblocked that way.
Do Other VPNs Unblock Monthly Girls’ Nozaki Kun?
Yes, but not all of them. Besides NordVPN and PrivateVPN, we also tested UK servers from ExpressVPN, Surfshark, and CyberGhost VPN, and can confirm that they let you watch Monthly Girls’ Nozaki Kun too. If you know other providers that let you do that, please tell us about them in the comments.
So, we suggest sticking to the VPNs recommended by StreamCatcher or the ones we mentioned above. Other VPNs might work too, but we can’t guarantee that.
Do Free VPNs Unblock Monthly Girls’ Nozaki Kun on Netflix?
No – at least we weren’t able to unblock the anime with them. Whenever we tried using a free VPN with Netflix, we only saw the Netflix proxy error.
That very likely happened because the free VPNs weren’t refreshing their IP address fast enough. If they don’t do that, Netflix will eventually detect and block them.
But even if you do manage to unblock the anime with a free VPN, there’s a chance you won’t enjoy the experience. Here’s why:
-
Free VPNs often have slow speeds (their servers become overcrowded fast).
-
Free VPNs also use capped bandwidth. Not being able to watch the last two or three episodes of Monthly Girls’ Nozaki Kun because you went over your bandwidth limit for the month is beyond annoying.
-
When you use free VPNs, you might have to put up with annoying ads and buggy apps.
-
If something goes wrong (the app crashes or the VPN can’t unblock Netflix anymore), you’ll rarely get fast or decent support.
-
Free VPN apps can put your privacy at risk and expose you to malware.
Why Can’t You Watch Monthly Girls’ Nozaki Kun on Netflix Worldwide?
The simplest answer we can give is that Netflix didn’t buy global licensing rights for this show. Not many people know this, but when Netflix acquires a show or movie for its platform from a copyright holder, they have to buy licensing rights – either for all the countries where Netflix is available, or only for specific regions.
In this case, it seems that the company only got licensing rights for a few locations. For countries they didn’t, they need to geo-block the anime. If they wouldn’t do that, it’d seem like they’re breaching the licensing agreements they signed. And doing that is a big no-no because Netflix could get sued.
Why Didn’t Netflix Buy Licensing Rights for Your Country?
Don’t take it personal – it’s not like Netflix has something against where you’re from. They just weren’t able to obtain the rights due to one of these reasons:
-
The rights weren’t for sale in the first place.
-
Netflix’s competitors already bought the rights to Monthly Girls’ Nozaki Kun in your country.
-
Netflix used data mining to determine how profitable it’d be to purchase rights for your region, and the analytics weren’t positive. Licensed content is a huge part of the company’s budget, so they can’t make investments that aren’t backed by data.
Do You Need to Use Incognito/Private Mode to Unblock Monthly Girls’ Nozaki Kun with a VPN?
Not from the start. We were able to watch the anime by using a VPN on a regular browser tab. We did use a different one than the one we normally use, though (Chrome instead of Opera).
But if the anime isn’t showing up for you on Netflix while connected to the VPN, you should definitely try incognito/private mode. Netflix will be less likely to detect tracking and session cookies that might give away your actual geo-location that way.
